Samantha Healey
BA (Hons). MA.
Welcome to Lingua Cyprus. My name is Samantha, and I am English; however, I have spent half of my life overseas including 20 years in Greece and Cyprus.
I have been teaching languages for almost 10 years now and have recently returned from the UK after obtaining a Master of Arts (MA) in Applied Linguistics from the University of Birmingham.
My passion for languages began at a young age during my first summer working in Crete.
I was fascinated by the curious alphabet on the road signs and the animated speech of the locals. It was there and then that I decided to start teaching myself Greek.
I would sit for hours every evening with books, cassettes (maybe the younger students will not even remember these!), and helpful Cretan friends to try and learn as much Greek as I could.
From there my passion also spread to TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language), Italian, and later to Russian.
Having decided this was the career path that I wanted to follow, I studied to obtain formal qualifications including CELTA, DELTA, Certificate of Attainment in Modern Greek (C2), Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Linguistics (First Class Honours), and a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics (Distinction).
I am very passionate about teaching and ensure that no two lessons are the same. My aim is to enable you to communicate in the language regarding topics that are relevant to you and to ensure that everything we cover in the lesson will help you to achieve this.
Although I use books as a reference tool to underpin the foundation of the lessons, there is no set syllabus that we must follow on a weekly basis. The lessons work because they are tailor made for you.
If you are nervous about taking the next step and contacting me about lessons, please be assured that I understand how you feel having been a student on many language courses.
Whilst the thought of starting lessons may be daunting for you, I am confident that you will be very pleased that you did.
Please take a look at the testimonials where you will see that many of the students had similar concerns as you may have now regarding language learning.
So whether you want to learn for fun, to challenge your brain, for employment purposes, to obtain qualifications, to make new friends, or to integrate more into Cypriot society, contact me today.
We can arrange to have an informal chat to discuss your requirements and to book a free trial lesson with no obligation.
